If you live in the Northwest you have to check out Kasbah, Seattle's best Moroccan restaurant. Tucked away in a quiet neighborhood on the outskirts of Ballard, the place is all done up with the usually fancy mediterranean ponges, drapey fabric and ornate tables but somehow it still feels homey and relaxed. It's the sort of place where you could sit and drink mint tea for hours and their food is fantastically authentic. Try out the Kasbah D'yaffa Feast, the 5 course dinner. It begins with soup, salad and b'stilla. You have a choice of dinner entree, ending with desert and mint tea. There is a great selection of beer, wine & spirits. Enjoy live mediterranean belly dancing every Friday and Saturday night. Kasbah Moroccan Restaurant is the perfect place for a romantic dinner for two or for a larger group of friends.

Tips

  • Where to Sit
The low cushions require a careful balancing act. If knees or backs are a problem, arrange things to sit on the comfortable--and stable--sofas.
  • Know Before You Go
Moroccan food is typically eaten with the fingers, from shared plates. The staff brings around warm water and towels to help keep diners clean between courses.
  • When to Go
Belly dancing shows begin between 7:30pm and 8pm on Friday and Saturday nights. Each show lasts about 20 minutes and the dancers may encourage diners to join in.
  • What to Drink
The medium-bodied Moroccan lager goes well with every course. Lightly sweetened hot mint tea is brought with dessert.

A wonderful experience

I am a very picky eater, much to my husband’s dismay. So when he suggested Kasbah one day I was very apprehensive but the second we walked in I knew I was in for a treat, the atmosphere is lush and exotic with pillowed low benches or big bean bag type pillows for seats, draped fabric on the ceilings and walls and gorgeous carpets all over. The wait staff were incredibly friendly, attentive and informative, telling us exactly what was in every course as they served them. Each meal comes as a 5 course experience, first is a vegetable soup, then an eggplant and pepper spread with wonderful bread, third is some kind of chicken and almond mixture (or couscous for vegetarians upon request) in phyllo dough, the fourth course is the meal you actually order-all options are delicious, the only thing better than your meal’s smell is your meal’s taste-and fifth is dessert with Moroccan tea, lavishly served in a Moroccan teapot and teacups. While not cheap, Kasbah gives you a huge bang for your buck. They also have belly dancers on weekends, incase the 5 course feast isn’t enough entertainment!

Pros: Amazing, huge portions, great choices, atmosphere & staff.

Cons: Pricey, can be difficult to get to.

I attended the Kasbah feeling great and warmed up to the enviroment inside. The food smelled and tasted great. The flavor was perfect and just right to get you eating more. The service kept you in your seat. The waiter was welcoming and was checking in on us to see if we were doing great and we were enjoying our time here. I highly recommend the Kasbah, you wont regret coming here, trust me its a journey you soon wont forget, I'm definitly coming back.

What an experience, I could have easily been sitting in Casblanca. Between the exceptionally food, outstanding hospitality, excellent service, exotic spices, stimulating decor of tapestry and testures, along with the taste of jazzman tea, smell of rose water, and the sight and sound of their belly dancer , we felt a thousand miles away from Seattle. What a treat! I went with my friend from Morocco (who is very particular about his food) and rated the food and experience a Top 10, highlighting how authentic and genuine everything was. Kasbah is diffinitely a place to come back too and recommend to others!!
